Concerns have been raised regarding the Diocese of Gaylord’s support for non-Catholic and anti-Catholic organizations as part of its “Social Ministries”. These ministries are listed on the Diocesan website. (https://www.dioceseofgaylord.org/catholicism/social-ministries). A brief review of these organizations has caused significant concern among faithful Catholics in the Diocese. As stewards of donation dollars to the Diocesan coffers, Catholics have the right to inquire and review where their dollars would be going before donating to the Diocesan Catholic Services Appeal (CSA) or other agencies in the Diocese.
Last year, it was announced that the Diocese of Gaylord would no longer be supporting Catholic Relief Services (https://gaylordfaithfulnews.org/2020/04/05/catholic-relief-services-no-longer-funded-by-gaylord-diocese/). Catholic Relief Services has a long record of participating in anti-Catholic activities, including among others, the promotion/participation in abortion and contraception-related services worldwide. Catholic Relief Services has also joined with pro-abortion and anti-Catholic organizations to promote a variety of social justice issues, often in direct conflict with Catholic Church teaching. For specific information, please visit the following website: https://www.lepantoin.org/crs/.
Due to these concerns, the Diocese announced via a communication with a Diocesan priest that Catholic Relief Services would no longer be funded by the Diocese. This has dramatically changed. On the Diocesan website, not one, but three activist arms of Catholic Relief Services are listed as being supported by the Diocese of Gaylord:
- Catholic Food Fast
- Operation Rice Bowl – discussed on this website last year: https://gaylordfaithfulnews.org/2020/03/12/a-dirty-dish-not-to-use-operation-rice-bowl-supports-anti-catholic-activities/
- Work of Human Hands.
Catholic Services Appeal (CSA) dollars are going to fund these organizations. Faithful Catholics of the Diocese of Gaylord should be made aware of this. If you believe Diocesan dollars should not be involved in supporting Catholic Relief Services, please write Bishop Hurley:
