The Manistee Catholic Schools Foundation is appealing the decision by Bishop Jeffrey Walsh to close the school. This closure represents one of the latest in a continued contraction of Catholicism in the Diocese of Gaylord. Manistee Catholic Central was a kindergarten through 12th grade school which was closed by Bishop Walsh because, according to the Diocese, the school could not come up with the needed funds to maintain operations of the school. This was after the Foundation was able to raise substantial amounts of money to keep the school open.
